Studying exposes you to new ideas, concepts and perspectives, broadening your knowledge and understanding of the world. Studying can foster independence, self-discipline and time management skills, contributing to personal growth and development. Studying is not just about academic success or academic achievement; it's also about personal growth, skill development and preparing for future opportunities.
So not knowing how to study will lead to the exact opposite of the importance of studying. So in this blog, I will walk you through on the 5 easy, beginner friendly and strategic tips that will help you achieve academic success, boost productivity, improve concentration, understand while you read and also retain the things you have read. So let's dive in.
Tip number 1: SET CLEAR GOALS AND PRIORITIES.
Setting specific and achievable goals, helps you focus on what you need to accomplish and allocate your time effectively. It also provides a roadmap for academic success. Your goals should be specific, realistic and measurable. Then number them according to how important they are(i.e. prioritize them) using the ABCD rule. A - high priority, B - medium, C - low, D - delegate. Now take 5 - 7 minutes to write down the things you want to achieve in your academic life this week and prioritize them using the ABCD rule.
Tip number 2: CREATE A CONDUCIVE STUDY ENVIRONMENT.
A well organized and comfortable study space can significantly impact your ability to focus and learn. Here are some ways to create an ideal study environment:
1. Dedicate a specific study area: choose a particular area suitable for you to learn. It should be free from distraction and interruptions.
2. Minimize clutter: in that specific area you have chosen to study, make sure to keep it clean, organized and clutter-free. It will help you to stay focused.
3. Good lighting and ventilation: in your study area make sure it has good lighting( natural light preferably) and light should be adequate. Then good ventilation too for comfort.
4. Good study equipment: make sure to have a comfortable chair and good desk to avoid physical discomfort.
5. Visual motivation: Adding motivational quotes, image will create a positive and inspiring atmosphere.
Tip number 3: MANAGE DIGITAL DISTRACTIONS.
Digital distraction can significantly hinder your focus and productivity. Here are some ways to manage digital distractions:
1. If your phone, laptop, ipad, notepad etc. are not needed for your studies, remove them from your study environment.
2. If there's any need for your digitals in your study environment, please do well to silence their notification while studying.
3. Log out of all social media handles. This will help you avoid mindless scrolling and also help you avoid distractions.
4. Put your device in airplane mode if need be.
Tip number 4: USE THE POMODORO TECHNIQUE.
Pomodoro technique is a method where you stay focused for 25 minutes and take a break for 5 minutes.
Here is how it works and how you can apply it on your study to achieve great academic success:
Choose the book you want to study. Choose the chapter too then set your timer or alarm for 25 minutes. Then begin to study. Stay focused and study until your timer rings. Once it rings, put a checkmark on a paper for a complete cycle, then take a five minute break. After the five minute break, continue with the pomodoro technique. After you complete 4 pomodoros, take a longer break for about 25 - 30 minutes.
